Hafa Adai! I’m Mona Jones.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LF70066415)

I grew up on the tiny island of Saipan, a beautiful paradise in the Pacific. Island life made me a natural observer and fueled my curiosity about why we are the way we are. I believe therapy is how we can answer those questions.

I specialize in the Developmental Model, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. As much as we try to grow, sometimes we get stuck in old storylines that no longer serve us. Together, we will work to identify the story you prefer to live, not what was written for you.

As a former stand-up comedian and now relational therapist, I see humor as a powerful clinical tool. It’s hard to laugh when the world feels heavy. We’ll explore deep material together and address the inner hecklers that keep you from enjoying the spotlight of your own life.

In our sessions, we will do the serious work, but we will also find the joy and the absurdity that make the journey worth it.

Selected Research

    • “Therapy is a Joke: Humor as a Systemic Tool for Connection and Change” presented at the Washington State Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Conference, September 2025

      • My research explores how humor functions as a systemic lubricant; by identifying the exact moment a couple stops laughing, we can deconstruct the rigid power structures that have begun to replace their emotional intimacy.

    • “Blank Space in Session? Taylor Your Style with Person-of-the-Therapist” co-presented at the Washington State Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Conference, September 2023

      • By analyzing the power of the Taylor Swift phenomenon, we provide strategies for therapists to use a client's parasocial relationships as a mirror for their own internal world, facilitating a faster and more vulnerable connection in the room.
